5 Signs You’re Doing It All Wrong Online

by FIG Marketing

With digital regulations and technology changing daily, it can be easy to make common mistakes with your online and digital marketing.

Recognizing these online mistakes, could produce more leads and set you above your competitors.

Digital presence doesn’t happen overnight but applying effective digital marketing strategies (and dropping old habits that you don’t realize are crippling your business), can substantially affect your business strategy.

Often times, the best way to learn how to do things right is to recognize everything you’re doing wrong.

5 Major Digital Marketing Mistakes

1. You can’t remember the last time you looked at your website.

If you have a website but you never use it as a resource, hardly check it, or never update it, it’s lonely.

Give it some love.

Try and look at your website as a visitor or potential client would, and think about what they see. Is there enough information about you and your business? Is there a clear call-to-action? Once you start browsing as the viewer, you’ll notice things that need to be tweaked or added.

2. DIY website? It may be best to leave it to the pros.

Unless you’re a graphic or web designer in your spare time, web and content design is an art form best left for the pros. Web design and digital strategy should be something you’re investing in so that clients will turn around and invest their trust in you as their financial professional.

It can take a lot to get noticed on the web. Graphic and web designers are the people who get your ideas and concepts in front of your clients and prospects, using their skills to make it look as professional and creative as possible.

On top of that, using proper SEO throughout your website is a must, so if you don’t quite understand what SEO means, you might be better off letting someone else be in the driver’s seat for this project. Sometimes, the DIY concept can cost you more to fix than if you were to just outsource it from the beginning.

3. You’re a social introvert online.

It doesn’t matter what line of business you’re in, there’s always a form of social media that you’re not tapping into yet. Let’s be honest, placing an ad in a newspaper isn’t going to pull traffic to your business as much as a Facebook post, or a tweet.

Building interpersonal connections is an essential strategy for your business, and will never go away. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media outlets all tie together to combine a perfect storm of free advertising (for the most part).

Take advantage of it.

If you’re not sure what to post, there are millions of articles online that teach you the benefits of social media postings, and even how to do it. It really can be easy.

4. You don’t have your Google My Business page updated.

Ask yourself this: what do you do when you can’t decide between two restaurants?

You Google it.

Most people turn to the internet and find reviews to make a judgment based on online presence. If you Google your business and your Google My Business listing isn’t updated, missing information, or not accurate, you should fix it right away.

Every business, when directly searched, should take over at the least the top five results. This is what potential clients are doing when they’re in search of a specific business or need.

You want to make sure what they’re seeing is what you want them to see.

5. You’re not using a custom email address.

If you are still using a Yahoo or Gmail email address for your primary business email account, ditch it.

Using a custom email address (for example, yourname@domain.com) makes you look immensely more professional and uniform.
